Why does the Airgarden cost $799?

Firstly, the Airgarden is proudly Aussie designed, made and owned. We use materials made at Food Grade Standard that are UV stabilised and suitable for the harsh Australian climate (unlike cheaper imported products). You won’t find a high quality or more durable product on the market.

With the Airgarden, you also no longer need to buy soil, fertiliser, mulch and gardening accessories, the cost of which adds up quickly.

Everything you need to start growing comes with your first Airgarden order. More dollars saved, with more successful harvests.

And last but not least, the facts is that the Airgarden saves you money. Based on the retail value of customers' average weekly yield - if you spend $30 a week on herbs, leafy greens, and veggies, your Airgarden will pay for itself in less than 6 months.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver Australia wide. Depending on your location, delivery takes 2 to 5 business days. Read more about it in our Shipping Policy.

Can I pick up my Airgarden in-store?

We do not have a retail store, however you can collect the Airgarden from our warehouse in Willawong, Brisbane. Reach out to us if you'd prefer to do this.

Does the Airgarden come with a warranty?

The Airgarden unit (which includes all plastic components) is covered by a lifetime warranty. The pump is covered by a 2 year warranty. The timer is covered by a 1 year warranty.

How much electricity does the Airgarden use?

In short - diddly squat! The Airgarden is extremely sustainable and uses approximately 11 cents / 480W / 0.48KW worth of electricity per day, or $45 per year.

To put this into context – the Airgarden uses 75% less electricity than the average fridge, which uses 45 cents of electricity per day, or $164 per year.

How does the Airgarden deal with birds, bugs and other pests?

The Airgarden is far less susceptible to bugs, birds and pests as there is no soil involved. However, they can occasionally cause a few issues if left untreated. Check out this post for info on prevention and treatment solutions.

You can also purchase a custom-designed Airgarden pest net to keep the nasties away.

What is aeroponics?

Developed by NASA as a means to grow food in space, Aeroponics is the process of growing plants in air or mist, without the use of soil.

This creates the ideal growing environment for plants – as aeroponics is conducted in air combined with micro-droplets of water, almost any plant can thrive. The materials which hold and support the aeroponic grown plants are also devoid of disease or pathogens (unlike with soil growing).

At Airgarden, we’ve adopted this innovative technology that results in faster growth, healthier plants, and bigger yields — all while using fewer resources.

Check out more about how it works here.

What is the difference between aeroponics and hydroponics

Aeroponics differs from conventional hydroponics and aquaponics, as unlike these growing processes where plants are constantly submerged in a liquid nutrient solution as the growing medium, aeroponics is conducted without any growing medium at all.

In aeroponic systems like an Airgarden, roots are suspended in the air, exposed, and sprayed with a mist containing water and nutrients. The plants therefore access significantly higher levels of oxygenation allowing them to thrive with much less human intervention.

Aeroponics is the easiest way for people to grow plants.

Check out more info on this here.

Can I grow indoors?

Currently, the Airgarden can only be grown outdoors and requires a minimum of 4 hours of direct sunlight each day.

However, we're always innovating and making improvements to our product, so make sure you subscribe to our e-newsletter, or follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay in the loop.

Can I easily transport the Airgarden?

One of the best things about the Airgarden is that it's easily transportable, at any stage of growth.

To transport the Airgarden, you can easily unpack and box up the unit (it is made of plastic so not heavy especially when disassembled), and then place plants in tupperware to transport them - they will last up to 12 hours outside the unit.

Does the Airgarden need to be kept undercover?

Nope! The Airgarden is totally fine in the rain as the system is largely closed. Some rain water does get in but it's not a problem. You just check your PH levels each week with the PH testing kit required and adjust as needed, which keeps all water in the system regulated to ideal conditions for plants.

Can the Airgarden be turned off?

The Airgarden works on an automated timer that provides your plants with the optimal level of water and nutrients. It is ideal to keep it on all the time, however if you want to turn it off overnight it is ok to do so, given there's no sunlight, however you MUST ensure your Airgarden turns on again in the morning.

If plants are left unwatered for 24-48 hours (depending on the heat) they will die.

How do you grow big fruiting plants like tomatoes & pumpkins?

With fruiting plants (e.g. tomatoes, beans, pumpkins) we recommend that you grow them on the bottom level of the Airgarden so they can grow out over the base reservoir and onto the ground.

If you want to avoid the plants touching the ground, what a lot of customers do is then put pots around / below the Airgarden to catch the vining fruits.

Or check out this article for an infographic showing where to plant what.

Does the Airgarden come in any other colours?

The Airgarden is only available in white, however there's a very important reason why!

The white material provides greater temperature control and keeps the reservoir water cool.

Hot temperatures can activate Pythium in water causing root rot, which can cause harm to all the plants growing in your Airgarden.

The white material also helps reflect light (compared to darker colours that absorb light), which can help direct additional light to plants if they aren't in direct sunlight.

What happens if the power goes out or the pump fails?

In the rare event of a power outage or pump failure, plants in the Airgarden will last up to 24 hours (even up to 36 hours in winter/cooler weather) without being watered. They will wilt, however once you turn the Airgarden back on they will bounce back in 2-3 hours.

So, as long as power is restored and you turn your Airgarden back on within 24 hours, your plants will be totally fine.

Our pump is covered by a 2 year warranty, but if you want to be cautious, we'd recommend purchasing an additional pump.

How long do Airgarden nutrients last for?

The shelf life for Airgarden nutrients will last for 2 years when stored in a cool, dark space.

What fertilisers are used to grow produce in an Airgarden?

The Airgarden is 100% herbicide and pesticide free. All you need to grow happy, healthy produce is our 2 Part Nutrient Solution.

What are the ingredients in Airgarden's 2 Part Nutrient Solution?

Our nutrients are a 100% natural, mineral blend solution. They are certified Food and Medicinal Grade quality and are specifically designed for Airgarden's soilless, aeroponic system.

Is growing with the Airgarden organic?

To be labelled ‘organic’, produce must be grown in a soil-based environment using a natural plant or animal based fertiliser.

As the Airgarden is soilless, it doesn’t have the label, but is often even cleaner than organic.

Often with soil, farmers will need to add chemicals to balance nutrient levels.

In the Airgarden, plants are fed with a perfectly balanced natural mineral solution without the need for any pesticides or herbicides, and are not at risk of contaminated soils, making it even cleaner than organic produce.

Growing with the Airgarden also addresses other factors associated with purchased produce, such as food miles, nutrient density, water use, and food waste.

Produce grown on the Airgarden uses 95% less water than soil-grown produce, travels zero miles to get to your plate, and is harvested and eaten at peak freshness with no lost nutritional value.

How much sunlight does an Airgarden need?

We recommend a minimum of 4 hours of direct sunlight per day in order to get the maximum yield from an Airgarden - the more sun, the faster your plants will grow.

If you want to grow fruiting plants like tomatoes or cucumbers, 6 hours of direct sunlight is ideal.

If you are only growing herbs and leafy greens, you only need a minimum of 2 hours of direct sunlight to successfully grow.

What can I grow in the Airgarden?

There are 150 different herbs, fruits, vegetables and flowers that you can grow in the Airgarden. With 30 grow holes, you can grow 30 at once.

The rule of thumb is if it doesn’t grow in the ground (e.g. a potato or a pumpkin) and it doesn’t grow on a tree (e.g. an apple or a banana), IT’S FAIR GAME! View the full list of what you can grow here

Or check out our Grower’s Guide for a comprehensive list of what to grow, based on your location and climate.

How big is the Airgarden?

The Airgarden is 1.5 meters tall & 60cm wide at the base.

The Airgarden weighs 20kg when empty.

Do you have a solar-powered version?

With aeroponics, plant roots are suspended in open air which means they need to be periodically and consistently irrigated to deliver the ideal levels of water and nutrients. This is what allows plants to grow 3X faster that soil-based gardening, and 2X faster than hydroponics.

Due to the nature of this growing method, there isn't currently a compatible solar option.

However, the Airgarden is incredibly energy efficient, using about 1/4 the amount of electricity as your fridge.

We are constantly working to improve our product though, so a solar option is in the works, so subscribe to our enewsletter or follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay in the loop.

How do I grow seedlings?

Option 1) Grow your own

Everything you need to do this (grow plugs, propagation kit, nutrients) is included with an Airgarden purchase. You just need to buy seeds from your local Bunnings / nursery. Growing healthy seedlings with strong root systems is crucial to successfully growing in the Airgarden.

Option 2) Purchase ready-to-plant seedlings via our website here. We grow and deliver your seedlings to your door in 3 weeks, ready for immediate transfer into your Airgarden.

How do I choose what plants to grow?

Check out our growing guide here

How loud is the Airgarden?

The Airgarden doesn't make much noise at all. You can hear it if you're outside nearby and it's pumping water, however the best way to describe the sound would be like a water feature - you can hear the dripping of the water, not the pump.

What should the EC / PPM strength of nutrients be?

In hydroponics, EC is the measurement of electrical conductivity within your nutrient solution. Essentially, EC tells you how much nutrient there is in the water.

When growing with aeroponics, different plants have different 'optimal' EC levels. Hence to successfully grow herbs, leafy greens and fruiting plants simultaneously in the Airgarden, the target EC level is the sweet-spot of 2.3 - 2.5, or 1150 PPM.

Airgarden nutrients are designed so that when filling and re-filling your reservoir this level is consistently achieved. However for those who want to be precise, check out this blog post to see how to use an EC pen to measure your EC levels, and how to adjust them if they're not within the target range.

Are there microbes when growing with aeroponics?

Microbes basically help nutrient availability and stop pathogens. As the Airgarden provides plants with readily available nutrients and there is no soil, we provide them the same building blocks they need to grow and thrive without microbes.

What are Airgarden's grow plugs made from?

Airgarden grow plugs are made from a coconut husk bi-product called coco-coir. Coco-coir is 100% OMRI Certified Organic.

Grow plugs are wrapped in a thin 100% biodegradable and compostable PLA netting. PLA net is a lightweight (12-gram weight), fine-fibre bio-web made of polylactic acid. It is certified according to the harmonized European standard EN13432.
